Press release
Leading communications and Internet services provider, Entanet, has pointed to unanswered concerns over the accuracy and effectiveness of the Internet Watch Foundation's block list in the latest article on its opinion web site. (http://opinion.enta.net/)
In the article, Neil Watson, Technical Support Manager at Entanet, points out that systems adhering to the IWF's list recently blocked access to innocent pages on Wikipedia, and that anyone with enough technical knowledge can quickly get around the restrictions and make material available anyway.
While acknowledging the belief held by many that the IWF block list will indeed help to prevent Internet users being exposed to potentially harmful sites, Watson warns that any move to make use of the IWF block list mandatory in the UK and Europe, could be the thin end of a wedge that will lead to all Internet access being restricted by the authorities.
