Concerned about user demand for the inserts?

3D printer templates.

Let people print their own via someone like Shapeways, mod them with the designs & colours of their choice, etc.

You're not canibalizing your own market since you can bulk injection-mould them cheaper than people can print them, but you're opening up a community of modders.
