Conclusion

...Acer's base unit is a by-the-book interpretation of a gaming rig and ultimately fails to capture the imagination.

Acer is investing heavily into the future of PC gaming with a range of new products launched under the Predator umbrella. Comprised, thus far, of desktops, laptops, tablets, monitors and peripherals, Predator is geared to be a one-stop-shop for PC gaming enthusiasts.

It's an ambitious plan with long-term potential, but in a fiercely competitive market, Acer needs to fire on all cylinders, and on this first inspection the Predator G6-710 desktop struggles to live up to its billing.

Designed to appeal to the status quo but lacking in substance, Acer's base unit is a by-the-book interpretation of a gaming rig and ultimately fails to capture the imagination. The exterior styling is likely to be met with mixed feelings, the internal clutter is likely to be off-putting to users who know their PCs, and when you consider the lofty price point, Predator G6 doesn't deliver the requisite punch.

There are signs of promise - the external drive bay and one-touch overclocking functions both work well - yet there's plenty of room for improvement. Acer's financial clout suggests that we should watch the development of the Predator line with interest, but as it stands, the G6 desktop is a timid proposition that fails to meet the needs of the more discerning gamer.

The Good

The Bad
One-touch overclocking works well
Hot-swappable external storage bay
Latest-gen Core i7 'Skylake' CPU
GTX 970 ensures quality 1080p gaming

Expensive for what it is
Questionable styling
Interior should be tidier
Gets hot and loud under load

That is ugly!
Looks.. subjective, but that case seems like it'd be a pain to work with - how easy is it to plug things into the back with that plastic facia in the way?
What's not to love.
Plastic monstrosity on the outside, 1996 looking back panel from a pentium 4 HP chassis and ladies tights for side panels.
With the front opened up like in that last picture it reminds me of a little aborted alien/mutant with thalidomide arms just gently whispering ‘Kill me’.
Certainly makes a bold statement. It's kind of Fugly, but kind of SyFy Channel B-movie cool too… looks like something from a 90's SciFi movie.
I'd be a bit scared of using it in case it suddenly morphs into a rabid psycho-killing machine mid-game and rips me limb from limb :D

The interior looks like it could be tricky to work with.
feels good not to be tempted.
