Building a capable gaming PC needn't cost a fortune. For those seeking high-quality QHD credentials, the combination of AMD Ryzen 7 3700X and Radeon RX 5700 XT is a safe choice for a mid-2020 rig.

Using a medley of MSI components, AWD-IT pairs the aforementioned duo in its £1,446 Gungnir 110R. The end result is a capable all-rounder boasting eight-core, 16-thread processing, 16GB of fast DDR4 memory, and a GPU that bodes well for silky-smooth gameplay on a high-resolution FreeSync monitor. Add to that a forward-looking B550 chipset, and you have peace of mind in knowing there's an upgrade path to future AMD Ryzen processors and/or PCIe 4.0 storage.

The building blocks are all sound, yet given the nature of the 65W CPU, we'd like to see system integrators be more adventurous in trying smaller, quieter setups that showcase AMD's low-power design in the best light. Competent though it is, the Gungnir 110R base unit is, for the most part, a formulaic build, and a shortage of overall refinement makes it feel a tad pricey alongside AWD-IT's other offerings.

Bottom line: Ryzen 3700X and Radeon 5700 XT is a satisfying mix, but unless you happen to be partial to MSI gear, AWD-IT's own P300 Air offers similar performance for a far more attractive sum.
