Final thoughts and rating

A network-attached storage solution is in one way a lot like a solid-state drive; once you've experienced the benefits, you wonder how you ever managed without.

But like SSDs, your NAS requirements should be tempered to meet your needs. If centralised storage is all you're after, or your only interest is sharing music with family or colleagues, the QNAP TS-469 Pro is way beyond your requirements.

If, on the other hand, you're looking to attach multiple iSCSI targets in clustered server environments, the TS-469 Pro should be near the top of your shortlist.

The compact four-bay NAS offers excellent performance, combined with forward-looking hardware components such as SATA 6Gbps and USB 3.0 connectivity, all partnered with a comprehensive software suite that's both easy to use and overflowing with features.

Bottom line: The TS-469 Pro is an expensive proposition, but one that's likely to bring real value to SMB environments.

The Good

Excellent performance
Supports USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps
Outstanding feature set
Simple setup

The Bad

No USB 3.0 port up front
Expensive

Too expensive for most home users, but looks OK for small office environments with virtualisation needs. Agree with review that it would be good to see this sort of kit running with port trunking (or MPIO if it supports it, given at this price point the likelihood being being matched with HyperV rather than vsphere.)
I agree about the price, a savvy home user could build one for 1/3 of the price!
