Final thoughts and rating
Kingston's HyperX MAX 3.0 provides the performance of an internal SSD in a tidy, portable package.
When hooked up to a USB 3.0 interface, it makes light work of moving or backing up large quantities of data. If that's something you do regularly, the drive's excellent read and write performance will help save time, whilst its lack of moving parts should also provide a greater sense of data security.
But when it comes to external SSDs, the benefits come at a hefty cost - £220 in the case of the 128GB Kingston HyperX MAX 3.0. And, given the industry's slow take up of USB 3.0, you may find yourself limited to USB 2.0 speeds on many devices.
The current cost of NAND flash memory leaves you with a choice; do you need the capacity of an affordable hard disk or the performance of premium flash? If it's the latter, Kingston's HyperX MAX 3.0 is an excellent choice.
The Good
Excellent read and write performance via USB 3.0
Slim and lightweight
Shock resistant
The Bad
