Conclusion

Though all other PSUs we've tested conform to the ATX specification, Antec's HCPP 850W is the closest to ideal.

Through the course of this review we have established that Antec charges a reasonable premium for its High Current Pro Platinum PSUs when compared to other similar supplies on the market. You can purchase a 1,000W Platinum-rated supply for the same price as the Antec 850W, but there's a valid reason for premium pricing this time around.

Antec uses some of the finest technology available from Delta Electronics. The end result is a supply that has truly excellent regulation - the best we've seen from any supply - class-leading ripple suppression and very good efficiency. Though all other PSUs we've tested conform to the ATX specification, Antec's HCPP 850W is the closest to ideal.

What you're essentially paying for is engineering excellence backed by a seven-year warranty. £185 may seem like an absurd price to play for an 850W PSU, but the High Current Pro Platinum is, in our tests, absurdly good.

The Good

Class-leading regulation and suppression
Very quiet under load
Seven-year warranty
Excellent layout and design

The Bad

Price is a thorny issue
Would prefer a zero-fan mode at low loads

higher price for a longer warranty? 7 years seems too long, graphic cards are getting more efficient probably a GTX Titan category graphics 7 years from now will only be powered by the Pci-E bus power

Probably right. But, I think this thing was meant for guys who'd go for that High-end Haswell-E + Tri-SLi or CrossfireX setup. You know these guys always are looking for “future proof” builds but end up buying a new one anyway :P haha
£188.22 Inc VAT lol antec you jokers.
Considering PSUs are practically the only component that survives upgrades AND rebuilds, hell potentially being the only component saved when you do the glorious brand-new-motherflippin'-new-system-oh-YES! build that you're lucky to experience more than once a decade (or once a relationship more likely) the price is completely justified.

Current rig is 4 years old, upgraded a few times, probably a mobo/cpu refresh in a year or 2, and won't even look at the PSU, previous PC to this was born as a core2duo built in '05 and still has same PSU
The PSU is the foundation for your PC and yet it's one area where many PC builders cheap out. This thing looks rock solid and would be a good starting point for an uber stable high end system.
