Final thoughts and rating
It's difficult not to like the Enermax REVOLUTION 85+ 850W PSU. Build quality is excellent, the modular connectors are good, and the performance - especially efficiency - is fantastic. Enermax is able to do all this and keep the 135mm fan pretty quiet, even at full load, so there's lots and lots of good here.Enermax, it seems, knows that the REVOLUTION is rather tasty and prices it accordingly. Looking at a band of etailers the average price is some £188, which is up to £50 dearer than other quality supplies with the same wattage rating. For example, the 80 PLUS Gold-rated Corsair HX850W is available for £134 and the Cooler Master UCP 900W, albeit non-modular, for the same money.
The warranty is limited to three years in this case, and the PSU is one component that's likely not to require upgrading in that time, meaning that the cover may well be called upon. Really, Enermax should be pushing its crème de la crème PSU with a five-year warranty as standard.
As an exercise in technology the REVOLUTION 85+ is excellent, ticking all the right boxes for today and tomorrow. However, you have to pay, handsomely at that, for such excellence, and we can only recommend it to those folk who don't mind shelling out an extra £50 for a marginal improvement over other quality supplies: £185 for a sub-1kW PSU is just really hard to take.
