Conclusion
...a USB-C docking station that can transmit video, audio, data, network and power to a compatible laptop with just one cable. When reviewing the HP EliteDisplay E243d back in June, our appreciation of the monitor's docking capabilities were tempered by the absence of built-in speakers and a 1080p panel whose image quality was basic by today's standards.
The good news for readers who see value in docking monitors is that the Philips Brilliance 272B7QUBHEB makes a much better fist of things. Armed with a 27in QHD panel, this is first and foremost a competent high-resolution display with decent brightness and good out-the-box colour accuracy.
Building on that solid foundation, Philips enhances the overall appeal with a pop-up Windows Hello webcam, a versatile stand, built-in speakers, DisplayPort out for daisy chaining and, most importantly, a USB-C docking station that can transmit video, audio, data, network and power to a compatible laptop with just one cable.
Bottom line: pricing remains a hurdle, and webcam quality isn't the best, but after spending some time with the Brilliance 272B, I'm convinced my next monitor needs to have Type-C docking capabilities as standard.
