Conclusion

Big on M.2, employing premium wireless connectivity and looking stylish to boot...

AMD's X570S chipset is for all intents and purposes exactly the same as the regular X570. Motherboard makers have run with the former as it enables them to release a flurry of apparently new boards. MSI does exactly this with the X570S Carbon Max WiFi.

Aside from some required layout optimisations the board does most things well. Big on M.2, employing premium wireless connectivity and looking stylish to boot, MSI can further improve it by adopting 20Gbps USB and onboard power and reset buttons.

More importantly, you may ask if this board is even required, as something like the X570 Unify costs only £30 more, but horses for courses.

Built for SSD storage and WiFi excellence first and foremost, this £290 board, fitting in neatly between Pro Carbon and Unify/Ace, is a decent candidate if paired with a high-end Ryzen CPU.

The Good

Loose some of the desperate bling, and this might have been designed by a Dane
Got be honest never noticed the fan come on with my x570. Guess its good to use a more efficient chip but otherwise it all a bit meh…
Actually quite like the look of this, sata ports redundant is a bummer but as said its a bit over kill with 8 anyway.

Hmm? maybe next upgrade
