Conclusion

PC Specialist has set out to deliver a portable, 14in laptop with full-HD gaming ambition at a competitive £999 price point...

Today's laptops are intriguing because there are so many attempting to be numerous different things. Some aim for all-day battery life, others attempt to replicate the performance of a high-end PC, there are those that attempt to be ludicrously thin, and we even have a few that come apart to double as a tablet.

The key is knowing what you want to be, and it's for this reason the Defiance II succeeds. PC Specialist has set out to deliver a portable, 14in laptop with full-HD gaming ambition at a competitive £999 price point, and Defiance II is exactly that and nothing more.

Pulling no surprises, PC Specialist employs Clevo's latest 14in chassis, the P640RE, and stocks it with the components you'd expect. These include a Core i7-6700HQ processor, 16GB of DDR4 memory, SSD storage and a GeForce GTX 970M GPU.

A tried-and-trusted combination well versed at 1080p gameplay, albeit without a great deal of finesse. Fan noise can be erratic, battery life leaves something to be desired, and if you're seeking something truly spectacular, you may be disappointed to find that an ultra-high-res display option isn't available.

Then again, if you're looking specifically for a 14in machine with bags of power, you'll do well to find one as quick as Defiance II for less than a thousand pounds.

It's another Clevo rebrand, the P640RE this time.
I do like PC Specialist (as I got my mid-range 14" SkyFire 950M gaming laptop from them), but this does look a bit overpriced for the specs.

I suppose they can't get everything right, but they'll still be my first port of call in the future when I need another laptop… unless of course it actually becomes possible to build your own laptop in the future in the UK :P
I am looking for a new laptop 17' for video editing I looked at there site, I have bought from them before, I looked at there higher end system £1600 approx. I want to put down a £1000 deposit and spread the cost of the balance over 12mths.
I phoned them and was told its up to the Finance company.
THEY WANT to spread the cost of the full price over 3yrs and charge you £900 interest
total rip of there Finance arrangements are CR@P
now I have a choice between Gigabyte p57w or alienware with the same specs for £1250

so PC.Specialists lost the sale and the person on the phone had the attitude of could not care less by referring me to the Finance company I thought he could have done a lot more
