On paper, MSI's GS60 Ghost Pro 4K gaming laptop appears to be too good to be true. A quad-core Core i7 processor, GTX 970M graphics, solid-state storage and a 15.6in, 4K display packed into a body that's less than 20mm thick?

Every gamer's dream, and MSI has improved on the original GS60 formula in more ways than one. The CPU is quicker, dual-channel memory is a better fit, latest-generation GTX 970M graphics make for a far superior gaming experience, and with a 4K display the on-screen visuals are a feast for the eyes.

There's so much to like, in fact, that it's a real shame the laptop's failings are more than just minor niggles. The small 128GB M.2 SSD isn't designed to be user-upgradeable, fan noise continues to frustrate, and perhaps most worrying of all, the built-in battery will struggle to get you through a single good movie.

The GS60 2QE Ghost Pro 4K is undoubtedly thin and powerful, yet it serves as another reminder that when it comes to gaming laptops, you can rarely have it all.
