Conclusion

...the keyboard is among the best in the business and both performance and battery life bode well for a full day's productivity.

We've enjoyed our time with the EliteBook 840 G7. HP's svelte chassis offers stylish looks and high-end build quality, the keyboard and trackpad are among the best in the business - second only, perhaps, to Lenovo's ThinkPad - and both performance and battery life bode well for a full day's productivity.

There's a lot to like, yet we come away from the review feeling as though the refreshed EliteBook is a fine example of last-generation laptops having been refined to the nth degree.

As competent as the system is in most regards, a quad-core processor is now starting to feel inappropriate in a executive PC at this price point. The goalposts are moving through advancements such as eight-core CPUs, 16:10 touchscreen displays, two-day battery life and fanless designs, and any one of these features would help elevate the EliteBook from good to great.

Bottom line: the evolutionary EliteBook 840 G7 is a likeable everyday workhorse and a fine fit for IT departments wanting to kit out their workforce with a tried and trusted solution.

I hope the keyboard is a bit more robust than the one in my Elitebook 745 G5, which had a few keys stop responding, and then the caps falling off permanently.
HPs lack of consistency on keyboards is infuriating. Some have that row on the right of the keyboard, some don't. For me it's a no-no, completely breaks the muscle memory for the placement of keys, especially return / delete etc/
