Conclusion
...the GeForce GTX 1050 is a part with limited performance potential, and one that struggles to render modern games at the native 1080p resolution...The Asus ROG Strix GL753VD has the makings of a solid mainstream gaming laptop. Priced at £1,100 and armed with a 17.3in full-HD display, Intel Core i5 processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX graphics, it should, in theory, provide the necessary thrills and spills for budding PC gamers.
That's the theory, but in practise Asus's GeForce GTX 1050 implementation struggles to render modern games at the native 1080p resolution with anything other than ultra-low quality settings.
A shame, really, as the keyboard and trackpad are comfortable, the matte IPS display is both big and bright, connectivity options are good and the Intel Core i5 processor ensures nippy everyday performance. These attributes should make the GL753VD a fine fit for casual gamers or eSports users with lower GPU demands, yet there is a question mark over pricing as more capable alternatives are available in Asus's own stable for similar money.
Bottom line: the limitations of the GeForce GTX 1050 are such that the entry-level Nvidia GPU is only really suited to laptops priced below the £1,000 mark.
