Final thoughts and rating
XFX is putting significant store in the Radeon HD 6950 line-up with no fewer than eight cards to choose from. Toned down somewhat from previous efforts, the dual-fan XXX edition - model number CDDC - is a company-specific take on AMD's £200 GPU.
Smaller than the original card but shipped with pre-overclocked core speeds of 830MHz core and 5,200MHz memory, XFX's 'Double Dissipation' technology works well, keeping the card relatively cool and very quiet under load.
A consummate performer at a 1080p resolution with modern games, we'd really like to see XFX keep the dual-BIOS switch of the original and sweeten the deal by dropping the retail price much closer to £200. With many an enthusiast waiting for the next-gen AMD and NVIDIA GPUs to surface early next year, firms such as XFX have a clear window in which to shift current stock.
A reasonable proposition at the £230 asking price, this could be made into a must-have package with aggressive pricing that's usually XFX's forte.
The Good
Quiet and relatively cool
Good overclocking ability
Overclocked on both core and memory
The Bad
Higher-than-hoped-for pricing
