--- Mounting System and Fitment Time

Mounting System

Given the NT-01's small size, you might think we'd have been able to fit it without removing the motherboard.

Well, think again. A rear mounting plate has to be used so a 10-minute board-removal was needed before we even got started.

The mounting plate has foam padding to protect the solder points on the underside of the motherboard and bolts that feed through and are held in place with nuts and rubber on the other side. Next up is the thermal paste, followed by the cooler. That's lowered onto the four bolts and held in place but another set of nuts.

The cooler's large footprint makes it pretty easy to ensure good contact with the CPU, with the nuts being progressively tightened in opposite corners. But if only there weren't so many steps involved.

Fitment Time

Multiple plates, bolts and nuts are certain to extend the fitting time, so the NT-01's lowly 23rd place, with a time of 910 seconds (15 minutes 10 seconds), came as no particular surprise.
