--- Mounting System and Fitment Time

Mounting System

The mounting system for the Square uses a back-plate for the motherboard, so removal is required. Although it's made of metal, the back-plate has a plastic protective film to safeguard motherboards with protruding solder joints.

This back-plate carries four long bolts. Each requires a small washer to be applied on the other side of the motherboard and is held in place by a nut. With all four securely in place, it's time for thermal paste. This is supplied in a small syringe and applied not just to the CPU but also to the base of the cooler.

Next step is to place the cooler over the nuts and secure it down with four further screw fittings. Although it's a fairly basic mounting system, care does have to be taken when securing the final fixings to ensure the cooler doesn't move.

Fitment Time

With a fitment time of 527 seconds (8 minutes 47 seconds), the Square managed to come in 17th. The time gradually built up, mainly because of the number of steps involved in getting the back-plate secured.
