Conclusion

...cooling performance on an overclocked CPU is exceptional, and noise levels are kept down to a comfortable level.

Deepcool's Assassin III is one of the highest-performing air coolers available on the market today.

Priced at £80, the dual-tower behemoth is designed to be an alternative to the popular Noctua NH-D15 and mirrors many of the same features. Each fin stack is embellished with a quality 140mm fan, the mounting kit will feel familiar to anyone accustomed to Noctua's SecuFirm2, and the comprehensive bundle includes a screwdriver, low-noise adapters and a handy card for spreading thermal paste.

Size and weight could be a concern, but memory clearance is decent and compatibility is assured with most performance chassis. The upside to such a colossal design is that cooling performance on an overclocked CPU is exceptional, and noise levels are kept down to a comfortable level.

There's not a great deal to criticise, but it is bold of Deepcool to come to market with an £80 MSRP. At that price point, it is always going to be difficult to look past the tried-and-trusted NH-D15.

The Good

The Bad
Excellent cooling performance
User-friendly mounting system
Comprehensive bundle
Keeps noise levels down

Huge footprint
Costs the same as Noctua's NH-D15

Really good to see something compete with Noctua, and I'm glad for them. But I'm firmly a Noctua fanboy (er…no pun intended). I've been using them for so long, nothing has ever broken, solid performance, I've migrated their bits through several builds over the years. They're rock-solid and absolutely will always be my go-to for cooling.

And once I contacted support about getting a spare part, they wouldn't accept money for it!
Need to see if Gamer's Nexus does a “dB for dB” comparison… ramping up the fans to get better cooling is a tradeoff that needs to be properly considered and for many it isn't a great tradeoff. (This is part of the reason I run a 360 rad custom loop.)
It's superb to see DeepCool pushing so far into the monster heatsink territory :) and along with bequiet! Dark Rock 4 and Noctua, you're spoiled for choice at the top end.

And I will always be a top end Air Cooler user .. I'm not ito AIO Water cooling.

Well done Deep Cool - there's room in this market for a monster cooler with good clearance all around it.

But.. . seeing Noctua offering FOC mounting kits for older coolers to fit new motherboards…. that's the ultimate step towards long term customer service. That's the next step perhaps?
That's another big boy up around 1.5kg. How much weight can modern mobos take when mounted vertically?
Well my heat killer IV PRO head are 900 grams on its own, but its right down on the CPU so not much leverage in it.
