Shuttle, the Taiwanese small form factor (SFF) PC specialist, has announced a new range of SFF PCs is available now in the UK. The Shuttle NC01U series, in a choice of four SKUs, measures only 0.5 litres in volume and are PC systems based upon a choice of Intel Broadwell processor - from Celeron, to Core i3, i5 and i7. Despite their extremely compact nature the machines are said to offer "smooth video performance at high resolutions," and "offer plenty of I/O ports", with upgradeable memory and storage.

The Shuttle XPC Nano NC01U models available are as follows:

  • NC01U with Intel Celeron 3205U CPU, with RRP of £109
  • NC01U3 with Intel Core i3-5005U CPU, with RRP of £242
  • NC01U5 with Intel Core i5-5200U CPU, with RRP of £309
  • NC01U7 with Intel Core i7-5500U CPU, with RRP of £397

Said to be ideal for home or office use, due to their small, elegant design, only the Celeron model is listed as not being 4K / Ultra HD video playback capable. When equipped with dual-channel memory any of the Core processor equipped SKUs can play back 4K / Ultra HD video, says Shuttle. Except for their processors the XPC Nano NC01U PCs are identical. The following specifications are common across all the SKUs:

  • Form Factor: Shuttle 0.57L Form Factor
  • Memory: 2 x 204 pin DDR3L SODIMM slots, 8GB per DIMM (Max 16GB), Dual Channel DDR3L 1333/1600 Mhz

  • Dimensions: 141(L) x 141(W) x 29(H) mm
  • POWER: 100 to 240VAC 50/60Hz, 65 Watts (19V/3.42A), 2 pin
  • Accessories supplied: Quickguide, DVD driver, VESA mount, Stand, Power adapter and cord
  • Other expansion slots: M.2 2230 AE key
  • OS Support: Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Linux

Key points to note about the XPC Nano NC01U range, not evident from the spec list, are that these Broadwell machines are said to offer stable long term operation, thanks to Shuttle's exclusive cooling technology, "even in 50⁰C environments". Also these VESA mountable machines are capable of dual-screen display using both the integrated video out ports (HDMI and Mini DP). Finally, for convenience in charging up your other small devices, users will be happy to know that both front panel USB3.0 ports provide 2A current for fast charging.

£100 for a desktop is not a bad price regardless of what it is. It's specs are more than enough for a media center.
DOUBLE CLAP FOR NC01U with Intel Celeron 3205U CPU, with RRP of £109
Add a couple of SODIMMs and some storage and you'll soon be pushing £200 even with the Celeron version, before you consider OS. It's not necessarily bad value at that point, but it's not better than a lot of desktop PCs that are readily available from popular etailers…
I tried dual channell memory for 4k playback,it doesnt even play 1080p well.I bought a cheap 4k capable itx video card, and i really enjoy it.
Decent price but by the time you addup the extras you could pick up a acer revo for less
