It's been a week of design wins for the folks at AMD, and the rapid adoption of the company's VISION platform is showing no signs of stopping.
Getting in on the action, Dell has this week expanded its line of Xtreme Performance Systems (XPS) with the launch of an all-AMD model; the Studio XPS 7100.
The smart-looking desktop, finished in a Carbide Silver chassis with Titan Silver trim, makes use of either a quad-core Phenom II X4 or hexa-core Phenom II X6 processor and a choice of Radeon HD 5000-series graphics cards.
Pricing for a quad-core system starts at £579, whilst the standard hexa-core base unit - equipped with a yet-to-be-announced 2.6GHz Phenom II X6 1035T processor, 4GB of DDR3 memory, 1GB ATI Radeon HD 5670 graphics and a 1TB hard drive - starts at £699.
A little pricier than a self-build, perhaps, but Dell's pre-configured systems certainly look the part and they come backed by a one-year service guarantee as standard. It's also worth pointing out that Dell's cheapest Intel Core i7-powered alternative - the Studio XPS 8100 - starts at £829.
Optional upgrades include the 2.8GHz Phenom II X6 1055T - though there's no option for the range-topping X6 1090T Black Edition, sadly - up to 12GB of DDR3 memory, up to 3TB of storage, a £230 upgrade to Radeon HD 5870 graphics, an optional Blu-ray drive or writer, and a wide choice of monitors priced from £140.
