ASUS might be one of the world's largest manufacturers of computer components, but it appears to be doing its utmost to tarnish its reputation.

Back in September, the Taiwan-based company shipped software cracks on recovery CDs bundled with its F3JC and VX2 notebooks. That embarrassing blunder was followed-up promptly with Eee Box units shipping to Japan with a virus on its hard drive.

It isn't all bad, though. ASUS has fessed up to its latest gaffe and provided the following statement to ease consumer concerns:

"ASUS was recently made aware of a virus issue with the Eee Box computers sold in Japan. ASUS has taken immediate action to replace the affected Eee Box units. As the issue was addressed on the same day that it was discovered, the extent of its impact is extremely limited. ASUS has determined the root cause and is fully confident that we have resolved this issue."

"We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and advise all customers who purchased an Eee Box in Japan between October 2nd and October 3rd 2008 to contact the ASUS service centre in Japan for more information."

There's no news on how the virus made its way onto systems in the first place, but confirming the above, UK-based retailer Scan.co.uk has told HEXUS that its stock of Eee Box systems are not affected.

:innocent:do you think asrock will comment that it is better to ship a virus with a pc than waste an ounce of copper of the motherboard
or better to ship viruses than deny people their windows?
