Remember when OCZ was showing off prototypes of its latest Flash-based storage solutions back at CES in January?

Well, those products are all now coming good. We've already seen the second-generation Vertex 2, Agility 2 and Z-Drive SSDs, and we're this week being treated to a portable solution in the form of a USB 3.0 drive dubbed Enyo.

Measuring just 10mm thick, the smart-looking drive features an anodised aluminium shell and blue LED activity indicators.

Inside, there's MLC Flash memory - in either 64GB, 128GB or 256GB servings - and a 64MB onboard cache. That potent combination will deliver read and write speeds of up to 260MB/s and 200MB/s, respectively, for the range-topping 256GB model, and OCZ's "Background Garbage Collection" technology should ensure performance doesn't degrade over time.

You'll need a USB 3.0 socket to make use of the blistering speeds, as well as a healthy bank balance. Expect to pay in the region of $230 for the smallest 64GB model, or up to $820 for the top-of-the-line 256GB drive. The latter works out at around £550 excluding VAT.

[Update] OCZ's 64GB, 128GB and 256GB Enyo drives are now available to pre-order from SCAN.co.uk* priced at £185.91, £335.54 and £671.09, respectively.

Well at first I thought WOW FINALLY!! BUT!!! Then I realised that it's actually massive and Scan had the USB3 sticks with the same speed and capacity in stock for ages….. so now I'm actually thinking…what's the point?

harder to lose?

screw it, the Super Talent fat thumb drives are better overall
i dread the day when my life is such a rush that i deem a portable drive with those speeds a necessity

…still want one though :D

i guess this looks more elegant even though it is bulkier. What i'm interested is how the Icy Box 250StU3 performs and if it is any good. If the USB 3 chip is competent then you can put in your own SSD in there (even a 5400rpm drive would see a benefit).
Depending on whether they've inflated the performance figure, it could be quite a bit faster than SuperTalent's RAID-pendrive http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=503&Itemid=60&limit=1&limitstart=5 (Fast but not as fast as manufacturer suggests)
