Taiwan's QNAP systems already has a couple of Intel Atom-powered NAS products - including the four-bay TS-439 and the two-bay TS-239 - but it's now expanding on that selection with the launch of the SS-439 Pro Turbo - the outfit's first four-bay NAS to support 2.5in drives.

The SS-439 Pro Turbo, pictured below, measures a compact 150mm x 102mm x 216mm and QNAP reckons the use of smaller 2.5in drives will lower power consumption, stating that the unit consumes only 18W with four drives installed.

Powering the unit is a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor and 1GB of DDR2 memory. The device supports RAID 0/1/5/6/5+hot spare and JBOD configurations, and features two eSATA ports for storage expansion.

A trio of USB ports are also available, as well as an array of advanced features including built-in iSCSI target service, online RAID expansion, online RAID level migration, scheduled power on/off and AES 256-bit volume-based encryption.

No mention of pricing yet, but we'd expect to see the SS-439 Pro Turbo NAS at QNAP's online store any day now.
