Parallel performance

Nikolay Grebennikov, Kaspersky's chief technical officer said the firm could no longer "ignore the advantages of modern graphics processing units (GPU).

In terms of efficiency, he said, GPUs "have long been far ahead of central processing units (CPU) аnd the tasks that they are capable of performing have gone beyond the scope of basic graphics processing."

"The architecture of the GPUs is optimised for the parallel processing of large data arrays and we have already started to use this attribute to provide our clients with an even better level of protection from new malicious programmes," he said.

Meanwhile, Andy Keane, NVIDIA's general manager for Tesla complimented Kaspersky for staying "ahead of the curve by employing very novel change management and file similarity detection techniques."

Kaspersky says it is also planning to expand the application of parallel computing on graphics processors in the near future, noting they would be further integrated into the firm's internal infrastructure and possibly into the company's own protection offerings too.

:( I thought this was going to say supported in latest update/offering - would of been uber if so.
I just do not see it.

How many times have I ever waited on my virus scanner? Only when I have been doing a full scan….and then it's all hard disk access, not CPU time.

I fail to see how this is anything but a gimmick.

How about you back up what your saying? Rather then posting a couple of links about larabee and GPGPU, how about you explain to me WHY I am wrong?

How about you explain how GPGPU will help virus scanners?

Explain why I NEVER see my CPU spike when my virus checker is doing it's work, yet GPGPU will help it?

Explain, why as a gamer, I would even want GPGPU doing virus scanning while I am gaming, especially when we all have oodles of CPU time going begging most of the time thanks to multi core CPUs?
