Dell has today updated its XPS 13 laptop, which it claims is "still the smallest 13-inch laptop on the planet with a virtually borderless InfinityEdge display." The current design XPS 13 was first seen back at the CES 2015 sporting fifth-generation Intel Core processors, which itself was a development of the original Dell Ultrabook launched at the CES 2012.

The new Dell XPS 13 offers a number of significant improvements on last year's model. Dell bullet points the key improvements as follows:

  • New powerful 7th Generation Intel Core processors
  • New larger 60WHr battery delivering longer battery life, up to 22 hours on FHD and up to 13 hours on QHD+
  • New Killer 1535 Wireless-AC technology for strong and reliable Wi-Fi connection
  • Developer Edition also available, featuring Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
  • Now available in Rose Gold option, as pictured

Features that carry over from the previous model include the following:

  • Available with either an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor
  • 8GB of RAM
  • 256GB SSD storage
  • Dell’s exclusive virtually borderless and premium Full HD, or UltraSharp QHD+ with Touch, InfinityEdge display
  • Stunning 13.3-inch screen in an 11-inch frame
  • Smallest 13-inch notebook on the planet and 17 per cent smaller than the comparable MacBook Air 13-inch. Starting at 2.7lb (1.22Kg) and measuring a super slim 9-15mm
  • Constructed with machined aluminium, carbon fibre and Corning Gorilla Glass for incredible durability and stunning design

The new XPS 13 and XPS 13 Developer Edition are available starting 4th Oct at $799 USD and $949 USD respectively.

Dell has also updated its mainstream Inspiron 15 & 17 5000 laptops with Kaby Lake processors, optional discrete graphics, and thinner, more colourful (Sparkling white, Midnight Blue, Fog Night, Matte Gray, Black, Bali Blue, Tango Red, Cosmic Purple) designs. The new Dell Inspiron models will become available from 4th Oct, starting from $549.

Have they fixed the coil whine/piezo electric effect chirping? My 9350 has this and it mars things somewhat. Dell claim this is “working as designed”. I hope they have updated their design for this model. That and the battery life. They claimed 11 hours for my model. It is nowhere near. That 13 hours battery life they state for QHD will be sitting at idle, screen at min brightness with no auto-refreshing content on the screen.
Still just 8GB? Seriously Dell? Get it together.
you can get 16GB - you just have to pay more. And I have to say I don't think I need the 16GB that mine has.
Business specs are on here. consumer specs not up yet.
Holy sh*t, 22 hours?! I highly doubt it'll be 22 hours but it has to be within a few hours of that for them to give that kind of estimate. And that's without some Lenovo-like tumour battery add-on.

I wonder how much this has to do with what's unique to the XPS vs. the new hardware. Will be interesting to see what others can accomplish (particularly on other OS's). Also, OLED still not ready for prime time?
