Everything must go

The Dixons group has announced the UK phase of the great HP TouchPad fire-sale, precipitated by HP's decision to pull out of the mobile device market.

Inevitably the news was first announced via Twitter, with head of media relations Mark Webb opting to use his own account. In his tweet, Webb revealed the 16GB version will go for £89 and the 32GB one will cost £115. There is, of course, limited stock.

Dixons.co.uk will have some stock later today, while Curry's and PC World will commence the offer tomorrow morning. There was also the confirmation that Dixons will be organising refunds (presumably of the price-difference) for those who bought TouchPads at full price.

Webb may have ended up regretting using this method of communication, as his Twitter account was promptly over-run with bargain-hunters wanting to know more. "Struggling to keep up with all the tweets right now, loads of interest..." said one, "...my twitter is going bonkers," said another.

So if you want a tablet for under a ton, as well as a brief piece of computing history, your best bet may be to constantly refresh the Dixons.co.uk TouchPad page incessantly or, failing that, get up early tomorrow and besiege your local PC World or Curry's. Let us know how you get on.

Too late, it happened over an hour ago according to Hotukdeals.

Damn my job.

Also posting a deal after it happens is slow.
Managed to reserve one for full-price at my local Argos. If they drop the price before tomorrow evening, I go grab it for £115.

Interesting Idea…
No stock at PC World, Dixons or Curry's :(

Pitty because it would of been perfect for my mom.

That's why everywhere sold out so quickly - smart cookies reserved at full price, in anticipation of price drops.

Sites with the full price product still have thousands in stock, since you can't be as savvy when buying online-only and just have to jump when the price lowers

At any rate, I have about 22 hours for Argos to drop their price before my reservation vanishes.
