Five months have passed since ASUS first previewed the Lamborghini Eee PC VX6 ultraportable, but said machine is now ready to make an appearance at UK stores priced at £499.

Designed with the help of Lamborghini, ASUS's latest Eee PC is said to be inspired by the Murcielago LP640 Roadster and is available in a choice of glossy black or white.

The head-turning Lamborghini badge on the lid suggests that there will be plenty of oomph under the hood, but the internal combination of a dual-core Intel Atom D525 processor and NVIDIA ION 2 graphics ensure that this remains a netbook with notebook aspirations.

Specification sound familiar? That'd be because the VX6 is for the most part the Eee PC 1215N in a Lambo-styled shell. But that's no bad thing, and ASUS does throw in a few upgrades on top of the 12.1in 1,366x768 display and 250GB hard disk. For the additional fee, the VX6 also introduces a duo of USB 3.0 ports and Bang & Olufsen Icepower stereo speakers.

Add on the killer looks and the £70 premium seems almost tempting. If build quality is up to scratch, this could be a vast improvement on the standard Eee PC 1215N.

We're told the Lamborghini Eee PC VX6 is racing to PC World stores as we speak with the following base specification:

Considering that for £500 a Dell M101Z is available with 4GB RAM, better hard drive, decent speakers and build quality and a more balanced combo of CPU and graphics power I wouldn't say this looked like a great buy…

considering that a quick look on youtube vids shows how one guy even returned his Dell M101Z cos it was a hairdryer and pumped out too much heat I think this might be an OK buy.

Then again, check the Eee forums and you'll see reports of failed charging pins inside of a month on the 1215N model this is based on.

Pity, plus optimus is limited to x1 PCIE bandwidth thanks to Intel :(
I'd rather save £100+ and get the Acer Ferrari netbook.

Not for me it isn't, nice and quick and cool enough to sit on my lap on the tube, I've been quite happy with it as a well balanced small machine. Good enough to play some older games at OK settings, and I can run Civ V at minimal settings.
£500 for an atom? gtfo

Kudos on USB 3.0 support, thumbs down on platform choice. They should have waited for bobcat
