An unannounced ASUS Eee PC has made its online appearance, and it's armed with something a little different inside.
The system, dubbed the Eee PC 1008P and captured by the folks over at HardwareZone, is a 10.1in netbook that's similar in terms of dimensions to the existing Eee PC 1008HA.
What makes the upcoming model stand out - aside from the garish pink design - is innards based on Intel's upcoming Pine Trail platform. Within the Eee PC 1008P, ASUS has provided a 1.66GHz Intel Atom "Pineview" processor, complete with integrated graphics and an on-chip memory controller.
The 45nm chip is said to consume 6.5W of power, and paired to the Tiger Point I/O it should pave the way for improved battery life. Though, CPU performance is likely to pale in comparison to mid-range CULV parts, and the ability of Intel's IGP remains a question mark.
The system's unusual looks - styled in either Hot Pink or Gold Brown - is the work of renowned designer Karim Rashid.
Aside from the new looks and next-gen Intel Atom processor, it's a familiar choice of hardware - including a 10.1in, 1,024x600 display, 1GB of memory, a 160GB hard drive, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and Microsoft's Windows 7 Starter operating system.
There's no mention of pricing just yet, but we're expecting to see this and a wave of Pineview-based netbooks at next month's CES. Anybody intrigued to see what Pineview can do? Or is CULV where it's at?
