U.S. system builder iBUYPOWER is no stranger to extreme notebooks, so it's something of a surprise to find that the company hasn't yet shipped an Intel Core i7-based portable.

Fortunately for those in anticipation, the wait is coming to an end today with the Battalion 101 W870CU - a 17.3in behemoth equipped with hardware that'll likely put your desktop to shame.

Inside this juggernaut (which appears to be a rebranded Clevo) resides a choice of Intel Core i7 processors - including the 2GHz Core i7 920XM Extreme Edition - up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M graphics card equipped with a 1GB GDDR3 frame buffer, and a choice of hard or solid-state storage solutions.

Bringing it all together is a generous 17.3in display that offers a full-HD 1,920x1,080 resolution - there is, of course, a Blu-ray drive available to make full use of all those pixels. Smitten? Prices start at $2,114, but the system only ships within the U.S. and Canada.

although i'm sure its a beast, is a gtx280 not a lil overkill for only 1920x1080 gaming ?
No, when you consider that is the mobile edition of the chipset.
hmm that's a pretty hefty laptop.
Think I am holding off of a new laptop until there is mobile version of the ATI 4860 or 5xxx series, still I have the time to wait, do not need a laptop just yet.
Engineering department at my work got a couple of the clevos that these are based on as mobile workstations. A bit overkill to run AutoCAD and **** though I'd say.
