We were intrigued by the Booklet 3G when Nokia announced the upcoming ultra-portable PC earlier this week. The gorgeous-looking system is easy on the eye, and Nokia's promise of HD visuals and 12 hours of battery life were enough to whet our appetite - so much so, that we wondered if the system could be packing a little extra inside, perhaps NVIDIA's ION or Intel's upcoming Pine Trail platform.
However, dashing all our hopes in one fell swoop, German website netbooknews.de claims that an unnamed source has priced the system at $799. That's roughly £500, and mighty expensive for what is essentially a super-sexy netbook.
The bad news doesn't stop there, either. According to the unnamed source, Nokia's Booklet 3G is equipped with a 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor, a Silverthorne part form the Menlow platform.
Whilst plenty powerful for everyday tasks such as word processing and web browsing, the hardware doesn't quite fit the HD credentials that Nokia has been touting. We'd suggest the Atom Z530 and Intel's integrated graphics will handle 720p video reasonably, but it's likely to struggle with full-HD 1080p content and Flash video might be troublesome, too.
Of course, the price and specification is merely rumour at this moment in time. Nokia plans to officially detail the finer workings of the Booklet 3G at its Nokia World event on September 2nd, and we're still hoping for a surprise or two.
