UK mobile network operator, Orange, is to become the latest service provider to bundle free laptops with its mobile broadband contracts.

Beginning next month, consumers signing up to a £25-per-month contract with a minimum contract length of 24 months, will receive a 16GiB ASUS Eee PC 900 free of charge.

The free-laptop deal will also extend to business customers who'll have a choose of HP systems. Businesses users opting for £35 or £45 monthly contracts will get a choice of HP's 6370 and 6730b laptops.

Speaking to PCRetail, Francois Mahieu, director at Orange UK, said:

We're committed to delivering quality, service and innovation for customers, so we're really pleased to be launching a range of connected laptop offers with out first partners HP and ASUS. Over time, we will be looking to expand our offering even further with more suppliers who are at the forefront of laptop technology, making it even easier for our customers to connect to the Internet seamlessly, whether it is for work or play.

The one real caveat would be the 24 month contract. Details on Orange's £25-per-month mobile broadband package aren't yet known, but with the ever-growing need for broadband on-the-go, it could prove to be a very enticing deal.

fail.
Kinda like getting a handset for your mobile phone contract…..good thinking, but a 24 month contract isn't very charming, and whatever you get now will be obselete in 2 years time.

Not only the hardware, but the deal you'll get will be overpriced. In 2 years time mobile broadband will be half the price at least for higher caps/faster speed so long contracts are a double kick in the hide…

The EeePC 900 is obsolete now. The Atom-powered 901 arrived earlier this month.:telephone:
Personally, £25 a month, thats £600 for the 24 month tarrif - likely to be a 3-5GB allowance on data.

Now, I can buy a 901 for £300 - then take up 3 Mobile Broadband on 5GB a month for 18 months at £7.50 a month (special offer on right now admittedly) but that works out at £135.

So £600 to orange for the out of date netbook or a shop bought 901 WITH reciept to manage the warranty myself at £435 - thats not a bad markup Orange are getting there….
