At Spring IDF 2008, however, Intel gave a sneak peek into the sixth-generation platform, codenamed Calpella, that will feature the mobile variant of the 45nm Nehalem processor, improved graphics (by how much?), better power-management states, and a new WiFi adapter that promises to increase battery-life by up-to 30 minutes.
Intel reckons that the new adapter will reduce under-load power requirements by a factor of 3x.
Intel demonstrated that energy-efficient scheduling, via adaptive snoozing, meaning that it can granularly vary the power under load, can significantly reduce power consumption.
We expect Calpella to be known as Centrino 3, and it will debut in 2009.
