CeBIT hasn't even started and already the guys at Zalman were getting into the spirit of the occasion by challenging each other to a game of Guitar Hero before the crowds turn up tommorow. This was no ordinary game though, these guys were wearing sunglasses.
It turned out that Guitar Hero Legends of Rock was being played for the first time on the 32-inch Trimon 3D monitor in full glorious HD. So without further ado, and being a bit of a fan of the Guitar Hero series, I took my jacket off, wacked on a pair of 3D shades and got down and dirty with a rendition of 'Paint It Black' by the Rolling Stones.
Playing the game in full 3D was a strange experience. Before, when I've played Legends of Rock I haven't really took much notice of what is going on around me, because I've been so focused on hitting the notes in time to the music, but in 3D you can't help but get drawn into the crowd. This does have its bad points because the 3D effects were off-putting whilst I was trying to concentrate, and as a result, my performance was well below standard. Neverthelesss, 3D console gaming will become more widespread if Zalman and others get their way and if the effect is used with the right games it could really enhance the experience. We understand that Zalman is currently in talks with Sony.
We'll be spending more time with Zalman tomorrow to find out what plans they have for the PS3 and to take a look at their other products.
