The HEXUS labs put AMD's Radeon HD 4670 to the test earlier today, and concluded that AMD's low-cost solution sets a new standard in the mainstream discrete graphics-card market by offering plenty of value for money.
As you'd expect, there's no shortage of AMD partners now shipping their Radeon HD 4670 and Radeon HD 4650 graphics cards - and most of them have opted to stick with AMD's perfectly-capable reference cooling solution.
MSI, on the other hand, has opted for a custom-cooling solution on day one, and its Radeon HD 4600 series provides an efficient heatsink fan with an all-copper base.
MSI's Radeon HD 4670, pictured below, provides the standard core and memory clock speeds of 750MHz and 2,000MHz respectively. The custom-cooler promises an idle temperature of 39°C and that'll rise to a reasonable 63°C under full load.
The Radeon HD 4650 - which MSI states is "a good choice for HTPCs" - provides a standard 600MHz core clock speed out of the box, and MSI tells us it can be safely overclocked to 712MHz. That's quite a healthy jump.
The cooler, then, is more than capable. HTPC users, however, will still be waiting for completely silent passive solutions - and they'll no doubt arrive in the coming weeks.
MSI hasn't announced official pricing, but you can expect its Radeon HD 4600 series graphics cards to appear at retailers from today.
