AMD is rapidly looking-forward from its FX-Series 'Bulldozer' CPUs, according to the roadmap below.
Optimistically covering a timeframe through to 2014, it's claimed that AMD is pencilling-in a 10 to 15 per cent increase in performance-per-watt, each year. We've already heard about 'Piledriver' and there's additionally a mention of 'Steamroller' (expected in 2013), and 'Excavator' (expected in 2014). All-in-all, the aim is that the jump from 'Bulldozer' to 'Excavator' will demonstrate a performance-per-watt increase, of between 30 and 45 per cent.
The chip manufacturer is also focussing on improving IPC (instructions per clock) and reducing power consumption, which it hopes will result in the ability to deliver higher clock speeds.
