A fan's a fan, right? Well trying telling that to German manufacturer be quiet!, who for the past decade has made it its mission to create fans that strike "the best balance between cooling performance and a virtually inaudible operation."

Continuing in that quest, the manufacturer has this week rolled out its latest effort in the form of the SilentWings 2.

Available in 140mm (pictured right), 120mm and 80mm models, the new fans all offer your choice of push-pin or screw fixings, a fluid dynamic bearing (FDB), rubberised fan frame and airflow-optimised fan blades.

be quiet!'s industrial-grade FDB features a copper core and heavy-duty lubricants that enable an anticipated lifetime of over 300,000 hours, but more importantly, the manufacturer reckons the combination of mounting options, aerodynamic blades and bundled voltage adaptors results in a solution that is "extremely quiet."

The SilentWings 2 series is likely to be a step up from most bundled chassis fans, but they aren't particularly cheap upgrades.

At launch, expect to pay €12.50 for the 80mm model, €15 for the 120mm model and €17 for the range-topping 140mm fan. We're told that a 92mm option will also be shipping soon, but in the meantime, check out the complete specifications below, as well as a short promotional video.

Looks good (but not cheap). 15dB with 50cfm is not to be sneezed at.
I will eat my hat if the 120mm fan really runs at 1500 RPM and only produces 15.7 dBA! Never seen specs like that before and they be correct.
New range of PC case fans that claim to be “nearly unhearable.”
I really must get my eyes checked - thought that, at first glance at least, that said “nearly unbearable”. :o

Joking aside, if these specs are genuine then they look like pretty darn fine units - and I'll probably get an 80 and a 120 to quieten down an old PC build I've got here.
Does anybody have PSU from this be quiet company? Any good? I can see them popping up everywhere but never heard of.

Looks more like 50 m3/h and only 5cfm when looking at the units of the table. Otherwise I'd agree! :)
