VIA to Define Future of PC Platform at VIA
Technology Forum 2002

VIA and Industry Partners to illustrate
VTF2002 theme of 'Total Connectivity: From Vision to Reality' over three days in
Taipei and Beijing

Taipei, Taiwan, 07 October 2002
- VIA Technologies, Inc, a leading innovator and developer of silicon chip
technologies and PC platform solutions, today previewed the upcoming VIA
Technology Forum 2002 that starts tomorrow in Taipei, highlighting how Total
Connectivity is already defining new market metrics for the PC industry.

“It is now clear that VIA’s
vision of Total Connectivity outlined at VTF last year is fast becoming a
reality, highlighted by more affordable personal computing, greater connectivity
between devices, and the tremendous growth in digital multimedia and its
multiple forms of delivery,” said Wenchi Chen, President and CEO of VIA
Technologies, Inc. “The stratification and streamlining of the market vindicates
our long-held view of connecting being the key to the future of computing.”

“Extending the PC further into
our lives means developing new and innovative technologies for these emerging
market segments,” Chen continued. “This brave new digital world requires brave
new product and technology ideas, and I am delighted that so many Partners are
joining us here at VTF2002 to define how to make them happen.”

In a press conference held
today in Taipei, VIA was joined by high level representatives of the nine
Diamond Sponsors of VTF2002: Advantech, AMD, Hynix, Infineon, Maxtor, Micron,
Microsoft, Phoenix and Wyse, in underlining the value of the VIA Technology
Forum as an open industry vehicle for exploring upcoming technologies and
defining emerging markets and key applications.

Leading industry analysts Jon
Peddie, Bert McComas and Kathleen Maher each gave an overview of the three
principal Technology Tracks of Totally Connected Home, Enterprise and Mobility
that will run simultaneously at VTF2002.

VTF2002 boasts more sponsors
operating in more industry fields than ever before, reflecting the increased
credibility and presence of VTF on the world technology stage and the
convergence of the technologies in today’s IT markets.

“We at VIA are very pleased at
the number and diversity of partners supporting VTF2002,” said Richard Brown,
Director of Marketing at VIA Technologies, Inc. “This is testament to the focus
and relevance of the VIA Technology Forum and its perception as an open industry
forum, even in these unsettled times in our industry.”
