GAME DEVELOPERS CONFERENCE - SAN JOSE, CA - MARCH 6th 2003 - NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), the worldwide leader in visual processing solutions, announced today that the new NVIDIA® GeForce FX and NVIDIA Quadro® FX families of graphics processing units (GPUs) are the first top-to-bottom DirectX 9.0 class graphics solutions optimised for Microsoft's DirectX® 9.0 and high-level shader language (HLSL). By using DirectX 9.0 and HLSL, game developers will be able to provide a high-impact, visually stunning experience for all consumers. NVIDIA and Microsoft are enabling a new era of cinematic computing by facilitating the development of real-time photorealistic effects on the Windows-based PC.
"The combination of Microsoft's HLSL and NVIDIA's graphics processors is a superb software and hardware blend that enables any developer to efficiently create photo-realistic real-time environments," said Dean Lester, general manager of Windows Graphics and Gaming Technologies at Microsoft. "Developers will be able to take advantage of more advanced features using HLSL while developing games for the Windows gaming platform."
"A high-level graphics language has broad appeal, facilitating development of graphics effects and ultimately providing high-impact, long-life applications for consumers," stated Ned Finkle, vice president of strategic marketing at NVIDIA. "Our goal is to make DirectX 9.0, HLSL and the Windows platform, one of the most pervasive graphics platforms ever."
With the GeForce FX family of GPUs, NVIDIA® delivers the first complete, top-to-bottom family of cinematic computing solutions that render games that look as good as big-budget Hollywood movies. Compatible with Microsoft's high-level shader language, NVIDIA's hardware solution increases programmer productivity and decreases development time of more graphically complex games, making it the most stable and reliable development platform in the industry.
