Research shows just one in five organisations knows how much their printers cost to run

Just one in five organisations is aware of how much their printer costs are, according to new research from Samsung Electronics UK, a leading name in the world of information technology and consumer electronics. This is in spite of the fact that cost was ranked as the most important element influencing the purchase of new printers and Multi-Function Printers (MFPs).

Public sector organisations fared better than private businesses in understanding how much their printers cost to run each year, with a quarter (24%) claiming they know how much they spend compared to just 17% of people in the private sector. 83% of respondents overall reported that ‘cost' was the key factor when choosing print solutions - more than twice as important as the next feature, colour capability at 47%.

15% of UK businesses own over 11 printers each, and over a third (34%) report that they produce more than 100 prints and copies every day.

Steve Pearce, Marketing Manager at Samsung Print commented: "With companies looking to cut costs where they can right now it's amazing to see that print costs seem to have been totally overlooked. Effectively managing the use of printers can contribute significant savings to the bottom line - be it through reducing IT support and repairs or the cost of consumables. The whole document ecosystem needs to be considered, and that's why we're working closely with all our business customers right now to help provide them with our most cost effective print solutions."

The findings follow a recently-launched campaign from Samsung to encourage organisations to increase the focus on managing their printing costs, called ‘CTRL P'. The initiative stands for the easy manageability of a customer's printing infrastructure.
Pearce added: "The CTRL P message is paramount for Samsung, and is reflected throughout our print solutions. Samsung's printers and multifunctional products help organisations to manage their printing fleet centrally, to minimise maintenance and offer greater control - ultimately reducing the cost of expensive office printing."
