PRESS RELEASE

  • First model in new range of Philips business monitors with a panel which is almost borderless on three sides
  • First in a family of monitors with webcam which pops up when it’s needed, and tucks away when it isn’t
  • Sustainable eco-design with PowerSensor

Amsterdam, 9 August 2016 With hackers becoming ever more inventive – and with awareness growing of potential risk exposure through webcams – MMD, the leading technology company and brand license partner for Philips Monitors, is rolling out the first Philips display with a webcam that pops up when needed, and is otherwise hidden in the display frame. The new 27-inch 272B7QPTKEB display, due for release in August, combines this extra security with excellent display performance: Crystal-clear images with Quad HD resolution, the extra-wide viewing angles of IPS panel technology, super-speed USB 3.0 for faster data transfer, as well as PowerSensor technology for eco-friendly productivity. Further monitors with a popup webcam will follow later this year, e.g. in 24-inch or with UHD resolution.

Greater security for office webcams

Webcams have become a fast, simple way to stay in touch with colleagues and partners all over the world. For many professionals, their webcam is a vital tool to obtain face-to-face contact with people – and enhance collaboration – without clocking up thousands of air miles. However, every webcam represents a window into the enterprise. If breached by hackers, it could theoretically be used to create an unauthorized access point. “With awareness for potential security flashpoints growing, many users do not wish to have their webcam focused on their desks all day, says Albert Ulfman, Product Manager Philips monitors Europe at MMD. “The new webcam on this latest display allays these concerns of users. The webcam pops up when it’s required for meetings, and tucks neatly away when it’s not in use.”

Like other Philips displays for professionals, the new display has a range of other standout features to drive productivity. At 27 inches, it’s compact enough to fit any desk. Viewing space is maximized by the ultra-narrow screen border – which also makes for a more immersive experience when tiling multiple displays. Image quality is excellent, thanks to Quad HD resolution with 2560 x 1440 pixels – designed to derive maximum viewing clarity from high bandwidth sources supported by the display, such as DisplayPort and HDMI . This monitor also supports “Daisy Chaining”: the ability to connect a series of devices together using a single connection between each two devices. This cabling arrangement, with one DisplayPort cable between each set of monitors, provides a less cluttered system configuration. A key benefit of a multi-monitor setup is increased productivity and seamless multi-tasking.

Eco productivity

The new 272B7QPTKEB display also exemplifies the commitment of MMD to sustainable productivity. It features innovative sensors to keep power consumption as low as possible. The PowerSensor, for example, can sense whether anyone is present at the desk, and automatically reduces screen brightness if the user steps away. This feature alone can reduce energy costs by up to 80 percent, and also prolongs the display life. BFR-free housing and 85 percent post-consumer recycled plastics reinforce the display’s justified claim to being a true eco-friendly productivity tool.

The new Philips 272B7QPTKEB display will be available in from August at an RRP of £ 599.
