PRESS RELEASE

23 January: Sharp Visual Solutions Europe today unveils its new range of high-end professional LCD screens. The line-up includes PN-R603 60- and PN-R703 70-inch displays and the industry's-first 90-inch LCD screen, the PN-R903. Despite their size, the screens are lightweight, slimmer and more efficient than existing LCD displays and offer full-HD 1920x1080 performance. And with a 700 cd/m2 light output, the ability to process over a billion colours, versatile connectivity and the option to mount the displays in portrait or landscape, professional users have greater flexibility to build highly engaging installations.

‘We are seeing more demand for larger screens, which we are focused on meeting while cutting the weight, power consumption and depth of displays to make them easier to install and more efficient to run. This new range shows just how far we've come in improving these measures in recent years,' says Darren Gaffey, Product Planning and Marketing Manager, Visual Solutions, Sharp. ‘For instance, the 90-inch display is slim at just over 12 cm wide at the deepest point and integrates local dimming technology that can reduce energy consumption by up to half while presenting images that are beautiful to look at with a "reach out and touch" quality.'

The screens include Sharp's UV2A LCD technology, which improves response speed and viewing angle and delivers exceptionally deep blacks and bright vivid colours. Contrast performance is further improved through local dimming (available on the PN-R903 only). This dims specific groups of LEDs on areas of the screen where the image is dark. As a result, the black level is improved and an extremely high contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 is achieved. Local dimming also helps significantly reduce power consumption.

The powerful light output of 700 cd/m2 is a key requirement for customers whose screens are used where ambient light levels are high. And this brightness performance, allied to the stunning clarity of images and vivid colours, will see the screens deployed across a wide range of indoor and semi-indoor environments. These include shopping centres, travel hubs and airports, retail stores, hospitality venues, building atriums and more. ‘The option to install the screens in landscape or portrait offers greater flexibility to build immersive digital signage systems," says Darren Gaffey. "Take fashion retailers as an example - with a 2 metre screen length, life-size images of people can be displayed so outfits can be shown with greater impact. When you see this type of content, it's really impressive and will help our customers catch people's attention.'

As expected of high-end professional displays, the three screens offer a range of connectivity. Inputs include DVI-I, DisplayPort, HDMI (x2), Audio (x2), Analog RGB and RS-232C. Outputs include DVI-D, DisplayPort, and Audio. RS-232C IN/OUT and LAN is also included to enable the display to be remotely managed.

Availability

The 60- and 90-inch screens will be available in March 2013 and the 70-inch screen in April 2013.
