PRESS RELEASE

Sharp Visual Solutions Europe will unveil a prototype of its new 70-inch LCD interactive display for professional markets at IFA, Berlin, August 31 to September 5. The high-resolution QFHD (3840x2160) display has a capacitive touch screen and enhances collaboration by allowing multiple users to interact with the screen simultaneously. Sharp will also debut its first QFHD desktop monitor - a 32-inch class (31.5-inch) display - based on an innovative Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide (IGZO) panel that delivers far superior resolution and power consumption, and a new professional 90-inch full HD display. All screens use Sharp's LED backlight technology to reduce power consumption.

IFA, Berlin 2012 - The 70-inch interactive display is a versatile canvas for team collaboration with the option to install the screen in landscape or portrait modes and even set it up as an interactive "tabletop". The display is very attractive, with the appearance of a "bezel-less" design due to a glass fascia. The ultra-high resolution of 3840x2160 provides really sharp images and, with a high-end touch screen functionality, the display is suited to retail, broadcast, showrooms, CAD, corporate, military, museum and exhibition markets.

"People increasingly want to interact with technology using touch and our latest interactive display provides a great user experience," says Darren Gaffey, Product Planning and Marketing Manager, Visual Solutions, Sharp. "Images are very sharp and clear and the tactile, responsive, capacitive touch interface, including drag, drop, zoom and more, works especially well in retail markets where customers can drill into content to find out more about products. It also encourages collaboration in corporate and commercial environments with the option for groups of people to interact with on-screen content in a highly engaging way."

Also on show at IFA is Sharp's new 90-inch professional monitor. It's designed to meet growing demand for larger monitors from retail, transport and exhibition/museum sectors and delivers high-quality performance across key benchmarks. Resolution is full HD (1920x1080) with high brightness across the display; the display achieves high contrast ratio through local dimming technology with actively switched the tiled backlight of the display depending on the content. In addition, the display is easier to install with significantly less weight than similar-size plasma displays and it has numerous connectivity and control options.

New IGZO monitor

Sharp's new high-resolution QFHD (3840x2160) 32-inch class (31.5-inch) monitor, on display at IFA, is one of the first to be manufactured using IGZO technology. IGZO attains far higher electron mobility, increases the aperture ratio for improved light transmittance and achieves higher resolution in terms of pixels per inch than amorphous silicon, traditionally used as the active layer in an LCD panel. Also, a reduction in the size of the thin film transistor layer means that less backlighting is needed. The very sharp and clear images produced by the display will appeal to users requiring highly detailed images including financial institutions, desktop publishers, filmmakers, and CAD and architecture professionals.

More touch options

Alongside the new products at IFA, Sharp will show its existing BIG PAD touch screen displays including the PN-L602B, PN-L702B and PN-L802B (60, 70 and 80-inch screens). The BIG PAD can be used for writing, drawing and interacting with content as well as traditional displays and video conferencing applications. A variety of applications will be demonstrated on the BIG PAD including interaction with PCs and tablets.
