Telford, England, 28th February 2008-- GETAC Inc., a leading, specialist rugged mobile computer manufacturer, renowned for producing market leading fully-rugged solutions, is pleased to announce that it is now utilising its expertise to expand its portfolio to include durable notebook solutions for the commercial market.

More and more consumers are becoming mobile savvy and can identify with the risks of taking important information on the move. In particular, businesses with mobile workers are taking rugged technology more seriously and are choosing equipment based on its hardwearing or security features very rarely found in mainstream products. The new 8212 durable notebook, GETAC’s first entry into the durable market, addresses the risks associated with taking important and valuable data on the move to provide mobile users with complete peace of mind and a solution that can lower cost of ownership for businesses.

Durable for every day use, the GETAC 8212 is protected by multiple physical safeguards against every-day damage, protecting against data loss as well as hardware faults. Spill, drop and shock resistance ensures a sturdy mobile solution for the rigors of mobile use. Key durable features include; a liquid resistant C-face protecting the touch pad, keyboard and switches from spillages, a hardwearing Magnesium Alloy Design providing 20x more strength than standard plastic, giving super resistance to accidental drops and bumps that often occur on the move; and an anti-shock HDD and an anti-shock mounted LCD screen to protect against shock.

Boasting a lightweight design at only 1.2kg, and the option to have up to 9 hours battery life, the 8212 offers a truly mobile solution. The 8212 includes a 12.1” WXGA screen featuring a LED Backlight panel which not only offers more realistic colour contrast but also contributes to battery life saving by consuming less power than a standard panel.

The 8212’s multiple communication features ensure that mobile users can always stay connected when away from the office; WLAN is supplied as standard allowing users to connect to a Local Area Notebook, now found in a multitude of locations, such as train and railway stations, hotels and more, whilst HSDPA (3G) and Bluetooth are available as optional upgrades.

The 8212 has been designed from the bottom up to provide advanced security facilities to ensure confidential data always remains guarded. Rejecting access from unauthorised users such as hackers or if the notebook is stolen, the 8212 offers complete peace of mind with storage security, authority justification and integrity measurements. A Trusted Platform Module (TPM 1.2) or ‘Root-of-Trust’, a chain of trust procedures monitoring every step, from pre-boot to OS load, guards against unauthorized tampering from physical theft of software attack. Password Security options for supervisors/users lock the HDD if an unauthorised user attempts to enter the system (especially useful in the event of a theft). The 8212 also boasts Biometric Fingerprint Readers, a secure and reliable authentication device for log-in or to access sensitive information, which also eliminates the need to remember passwords which can be easily forgotten or hacked.

The 8212 will be showcased on the GETAC stand, Hall 25, stand B05 at CeBIT 2008 (Hannover, Germany, March 4th to March 9th). For further information on GETAC’s extensive rugged portfolio, which includes; Hand Held devices, Notebooks, Tablet PCs and more please visit www.getac.com.
