OK, it is out. AMD unleashed the Radeon R9 290X yesterday. Just as fast as Nvidia's GeForce GTX Titan - some say quicker - but priced at an altogether more reasonable $549 (£425-£450), it appears that AMD is very much back in the enthusiast graphics card game.
Yet this new beast achieves blistering performance by deliberately running at a very toasty 95°C and using cooling that is, in our opinion, inferior to Nvidia's.
There's a lot of good here, some not so good, and R9 290X can well be thought of as a scaled-up version of the Radeon HD 7970 - a GPU released almost two years ago.
