The UP roadmap

The single-CPU server roadmap sees the same Barcelona/Shanghai crossover. This time, the Suzuka variant (akin to Shanghai and desktop Deneb), on the Catalunya platform, will feature DDR3 sooner.

There appear to be no plans to introduce >four-core models before 2011, though.

Summary

There's nothing earth-shatteringly new before 2011 for both the MP and UP server/workstation environments, it seems. No new, grounds-up architectures to speak about. Rather, AMD's consolidating on its Shanghai core and extending it out to six- and 12-core models.

The roadmap appears to be conservative in terms of technological advancement. Now disseminated, the critical aspect is that AMD is able to stick to it and launch on schedule, each and every time, because Intel surely will.

With nothing really fantastic to talk about, AMD will be, rightly so, banging on the price-to-performance and energy-efficiency drums, we reckon, so expect to see more announcements from the Austin outfit soon.
