"In a few years, we think the industry will look back on 64-bit computing in amazement - recognizing how our lives have been impacted and what has become possible," said Ed Ellett, vice president of client business segment, Computation Products Group, AMD. "Someday, 64-bit technology will be viewed as a breakout performance for the computing industry. By participating in the AMD Breakout Performance Survey, voters will be able to take a step back into some of the most memorable events in history."
Eligible participants who complete and submit the survey will be automatically entered into a drawing to win one of 64 first prizes or one grand prize - a system based on the upcoming AMD Athlon(tm) 64 processor.
Solutions based on the upcoming AMD Athlon 64 processor are expected to provide customers with enhanced multimedia applications, stellar performance and playback quality on all digital entertainment features such as games, streaming video and audio, DVDs, and music.
Desktop PCs built on the upcoming AMD Athlon 64 processor are designed to run 64-bit applications at full performance and simultaneously run 32-bit software applications with no performance penalty.
Preliminary survey results show that in the sports category, the U.S. hockey team winning the Gold medal in the 1980 Olympics is the predominant choice. For arts and entertainment, "Star Wars" for introducing the world to Jedi and the Empire in 1977 is the overwhelming favorite. And for science and technology, German Albert Einstein for his writing of the "Theory of Relativity" in 1905 is the category leader.
The AMD Breakout Performance Survey will conclude in April 2003 and winners will be notified at that time. Additionally, the list of winners will be posted at <http://www.amd.com/gb-uk/Corporate/VirtualPressRoom/0,,51_104,00.html>
