TOP PDA MAKERS SELECT INTEL® STRONGARM*
PROCESSOR TO POWER

NEXT GENERATION OF COMMUNICATIONS PRODUCTS

Six Companies Add to Growing List of Intel StrongARM Design Wins

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 4, 2001 -- Intel Corporation today announced

that six top makers of personal digital assistants (PDA) have selected the

Intel® StrongARM* SA-1110 processor to power their next generation of

communications products. The Intel processor technology allows handheld

communications devices to work efficiently and effectively while running a

variety of business, multimedia and Internet applications.

Compaq Corporation, Hewlett-Packard Company and Symbol Technologies

are continuing their existing relationship with Intel by again selecting

Intel StrongARM processors to power their new line of products. Casio

Computer Co., Ltd., NEC Corporation, and Toshiba Corporation have selected

Intel's StrongARM technology for the first time for use in their new devices

in order to take advantage of the high performance and low power benefits of

Intel StrongARM processors.

"The success of Intel StrongARM in the growing handheld

market segment has been tremendous," said Peter Green, general manager of

Intel's Handheld Computing Division. "It is very gratifying to see new

players choosing Intel, long-standing vendors switching to Intel and current

customers extending their relationship with Intel. We are also seeing this

success extend into platforms such as 2.5G and 3G phones, where leading

power and performance capabilities are key."

All of the products introduced by the six companies today are based

on Microsoft's* Windows Powered Pocket PC 2002 software, running on the 206

MHz Intel StrongARM SA-1110 processor. According to industry analyst firm

IDC, the Intel StrongARM processor is the leading processor for Microsoft

Pocket PC-based PDAs worldwide.

"One of Microsoft's goals with Pocket PC 2002 is to provide users

with a compelling experience that allows them to get the most from their

work and play," said Rogers Weed, general manager for the Mobility Division

at Microsoft. "Intel has joined us on the path toward realizing this goal

with its Intel StrongARM processors that will benefit users by providing

leading edge performance for applications and significant power savings to

extend battery life."

The six PDA vendors have also announced their products will use

Intel StrataFlash® memory to store both application and operating system

code in their new designs. Intel StrataFlash memory offers a cost-effective,

single-chip solution using an innovative multilevel cell technology that

makes it ideal for Internet phones and PDAs where high density and low cost

per bit are important.

The combination of Intel StrongARM processors and the innovative

Intel StrataFlash memory enables PDA users to take advantage of the full

benefits of the Microsoft Windows Powered Pocket PC 2002 software and other

multimedia applications. The Intel SA-1110 processor typically dissipates

less than one-half watt, greatly extending battery life for handheld devices

while providing powerful performance. The balance of power and performance

is available for image viewing, video and audio record and playback, speech

and handwriting recognition, and for business applications such as personal

information management, word processing and spreadsheets.

Intel, the world's largest chip maker, is also a leading

manufacturer of computer, networking and communications products. Additional
