Speaking to French newspaper Les Échos, the head of Nokia France, Paul Amsellem likened the Lumia 800 and 710, which were unveiled recently, to low and mid-range Lumia models.
As reported by WMPoweruser, Amsellem said of the Lumia 800: “It’s just the equivalent of the BMW 5 Series. We will soon have a full range with a Series 7 and Series 3,” presumably referring to the lower-end Lumia 710 as Series 3 and suggesting that a more powerful handset is in development.
The two latest Nokia models, due for release later this month, come equipped with the Windows 8 operating system and boast colourful designs. The higher-end model features the Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon processor running at 1.4GHz and includes 16GB of internal storage and 25GB of cloud SkyDrive storage.
Nokia isn’t quite ready to show its hand just yet with a new model. "We haven't revealed what else may be in store in the future for the Lumia portfolio," said Nokia representative Keith Nowak.
The French boss also revealed that Nokia will release a new tablet in June 2012, which doesn’t really come as a big surprise considering the company was talking about re-entering the tablet market only recently.
Talking with Bloomberg earlier this month, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop said that the release of Windows 8 next year signals a “new tablet opportunity” for the company. What’s most surprisingly about the announcement, however, is that Windows 8 isn’t expected to be released until Autumn 2012, yet Amsellem says the new tablet will run the operating system, which hasn’t even hit beta yet.
Nokia has neither confirmed nor denied that a new smartphone or tablet is in the works.
