While US customers, five million of them, have been enjoying the joys of the Amazon Kindle Fire for a few weeks now, we’ve been waiting patiently for the announcement of a UK release date.

Well, the news still hasn’t officially been confirmed, but an Amazon insider has leaked information that the 7 inch tablet will launch in January 2012.

Though pricing has yet to be confirmed for the UK, the Kindle Fire went on sale in the US for the moderate sum of $199 and is expected to retail at approximately £190, which would price it very competitively against rival tablets such as the iPad 2.

The Amazon Kindle Fire has a 7 inch IPS touch-screen, 1 GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM and 8GB of on-board memory. It runs on Android 2.3 and supports WiFi, but not 3G.

It’s going to be interesting to see if preorders for Kindle Fire will be as frantic as they were in the US, where Amazon had to produce extra stock quickly to cope with demand.

Well some of the first gen android tablets such as xoom are starting to get to the £250 mark now. I think i'd rather spend the extra for the 10" screen and full android.

Price just feels a little disappointing but I guess I should have expected it ($=£).
At that price I imagine importing one from the US would be more financially astute.
my friend imported one from amazon.com, including import duties etc…i think it cost him approx £165 so how the hell are they going to sell it at higher cost then buying from amazon.com??
