The SkyDrive app allows users to upload files to cloud storage and then access them from a web browser. Like the desktop version of SkyDrive, app users can pick a file of any type, or a folder, and share it with multiple people, giving them view-only or view-and-edit permissions.
Though SkyDrive has already been integrated through the Office and Picture hubs of Windows Phones, the app now adds more functionality allowing users to share links, delete files, browse and create folders.
Here are the apps in action for both Windows Phone 7.5 and iPhone:
This arrival of the new app coincides with a complete overhaul of the SkyDrive service, which includes a number of improvements, including the ability to share single files and pass around data easily via social networking channels, including Facebook and LinkedIn.
Other improvements to the interface and file management system include the option to create and rename files inline and perform bulk-actions to move or download multiple files. Further support for browsers that host the HTML5 File Api, including Internet Explorer 10, Google Chrome, Firefox and Safari means that users can now “drag and “drop” photos and files into the cloud at SkyDrive.com.
The SkyDrive app for Windows Phone 7.5 is available worldwide, while the iPhone app is available in 32 languages.
Microsoft also confirmed this week that it has added iPad support for its information-gathering app, OneNote.
